Not content with the announcement of its new range of smartphones, Alcatel is also bursting into the tablet scene, with the launch of two new tablet lineups spanning a total of five new models here at CES 2013. Read on after the break to find out more about the One Touch Tab and Evo 7 series of tablets.
First up is Alcatel’s attempt at the low-cost tablet scene. Yesterday, Acer announced the budget-friendly Iconia B1 tablet which has a price tag of only $150 (roughly RM460). Alcatel is aiming for the same market with the launch of three new tablets that forms the One Touch Tab lineup. The cheapest of the three, the One Touch Tab 7 is only priced at $129 (just under RM400), and features a 7-inch TFT 1024 x 600 screen. It is powered by a 1GHz single-core CPU paired with 1GB of RAM, and like all tablets in the One Touch Tab series, it will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. There is no rear camera to be found here, but there’s a VGA one in front. Storage wise, there is only 4GB of flash storage fitted in the One Touch Tab 7, but there is a microSD card slot available.
The middle child of the family is the One Touch Tab 7 HD, which at $149 trumps Acer’s Iconia B1 in every hardware segment. It is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM, and has a decent-sounding 1280 x 800 IPS screen. There’s also a 2MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing one. Finally, the One Touch Tab 7HD will have 8GB of internal storage, which can be expandable via microSD.
Besides that, the flagship tablet in the series is the $179 (roughly RM550) One Touch Tab 8 HD. Interestingly, specs wise the One Touch 8 HD shares the same internal hardware as the One Touch Tab 7 HD, with the exception of a larger 8-inch, 1024 x 768 screen.
All tablets in the One Touch Tab lineup will only have WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and will be available in Q3 of this year.
On the other hand, Alcatel has also launched two higher end tablets as part of the Evo 7 lineup. The interesting aspect of these tablets is that while they are WiFi and Bluetooth only, there are 3G and 4G add-on modules available which allows for a lower cost for those who do not wish to purchase a tablet with mobile data.
The higher end Evo 7 HD has a 7-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display, and is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core CPU paired with 1GB of RAM. It will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and will have 4GB of expandable storage, as well as a 3MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing one. It will also support WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, and will be priced at $179, while there are versions with 3G and 4G removable modules priced at $249 and $349 respectively.
Finally, there is the moderately-specced Evo 7 tablet, which has a 7-inch 1024 x 600 display and a single-core 1GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. There are no rear cameras here, as is the absence of Jelly Bean Android (it will instead run on Android 4.0 ICS). There will, however, have the same 4GB storage with an microSD card slot. Connectivity options is also limited to WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1, while the mobile data module is capped at 3G only. Unfortunately, pricing nor release date for the Evo 7 has not been revealed.
