In the hunt for a thinner and lighter chassis, Nokia will look to the past in its pre-polycarbonate days and go back to using aluminium for the successor to the Lumia 920 flagship. According to The Verge, the next Lumia flagship, codenamed Catwalk, will debut later this year as part of the new Lumia lineup for 2013. In addition to “Catwalk”, Nokia is preparing at least two more Lumia devices for 2013, as Windows Phone 8 finally gathers steam.
As is evident with the iPhone 5, an aluminium chassis makes for a significantly thinner and lighter chassis, which is becoming a trend among consumers. Reports of severely bent chassis on the iPhone 5 remains unconfirmed, and may have well been a hoax. However, it remains to be seen if the iconic polycarbonate chassis in vibrant colours will be phased out from Nokia’s product lineup.
