While flying back from BlackBerry World in Orlando, I had an opportunity to test out the Gogo in-flight internet when flying from Orlando to LAX and boy was I impressed. For a meagre US$13 for flight long access and decent speeds, I can’t help think why on earth don’t we have these on international flights. Looks like it may be that much closer to a reality now that Gogo has made a deal with AeroSat for Ku-band internet connections, adding to the existing Ka-band deal. While the technology is not ready for the public, Gogo is considering this an interim step, letting there be much quicker availability when it does come out. The time line looks not too immediate, estimating a 2013-2014 for international flights.
I hate flying. But with internet on board, I may hate it that much less. How much would YOU pay for internet throughout your long haul flight?
