It is inevitable that a refresh of the Google Nexus smartphone is due soon. But with Google now open for more manufacturers to produce their hardware, it still remains to be seen just who will be making the next Nexus smartphone.
If rumours are to be believed, the next Nexus smartphone will be made by LG, to be based on the Optimus G superphone. However, the specs will be similar to that of the Optimus G, but with some drawbacks. While the rumoured Nexus smartphone will retain the Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and 1280 x 768 IPS display found in the Optimus G, it will only feature an 8MP shooter (instead of 13MP) and a tiny 8GB or 16GB of non-expandable storage, instead of the 32GB found in the LG flagship.
Indeed, the LG-based Nexus smartphone has not dulled rumours of other Nexus smartphones, however. We might just see a refresh of the Galaxy Nexus, and possibly also a 5-inch HTC Nexus phablet, which would extensively expand the Nexus family of vanilla Android devices.
