Hack in the Box Security Conference returns to Malaysia on its tenth anniversary this year, scheduled to be held in Intercontinental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 8-11 October. To commemorate this event, TIME, who recently unveiled its high-speed 100Mbps fibre broadband plans for Malaysians last month, has announced that they will supply internet speeds of 500Mbps via its fibre optics network during the conference, the fastest ever in Malaysia. What’s more, this connection will not only be available for the participants, but also for the public.
“500Mbps dedicated link is a crazy speed, never before seen in any conference in Malaysia, but I fully expect the participants to redline our pipes all four days,” said TIME CEO Afzal Abdul Rahim. TIME will be the official internet connectivity sponsors for HITBSecConf2012.
More on HITBSecConf2012 after the break.
This year’s conference is expected to draw the largest turnout to date, with over a thousand hackers, developers, security professionals and tech enthusiasts the world over coming down for the event. A truly technical and deep-knowledge event, HITBSecConf2012 will enable participants to learn first-hand about security threats in today’s super-connected world and act as a platform to enable dissemination, discussion and sharing of critical network security information.
During the four-day conference, there will be events that are open to the public, such as the Capture the Flag competition. Similar to classic CTF game modes in first-person shooters, HITBSecConf’s edition is a 32-hour non-stop hacking version of CTF, where instead of guns, teams are given a set of daemons to exploit the daemons of the other team to steal their flags. Registration for the competition is already open, and you can do so here.
Other events open to the public include:
1. Hackweekday – a 36-hour hackathon where you can hack with the experts and learn from them!
2. Commsec Village – a community and security area highlighting various security-related projects
3. Lockpicking Village
4. Mdec Exhibition
5. Google Chrome pwnium challenge
6. Amazon recruitment drive
7. Microsoft Kinect booth
Also, for the first time ever, these events will also be open to the public:
1. HITB2012KUL Post Conference Party – Ladies enter for free!
2. Charity Auction – check out the items available here (highlights: custom designed Xbox 360, and two BlackBerry Playbooks).
