Sony is not just resting on their NEX system laurels and is out to try to conquer the compact camera market as well with their latest Cybershot DSC-RX100. Boasting a pretty crazy 20MP 1Inch CMOS sensor, 28-100mm equivalent lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.8 and IS, this is also the first Sony compact to shoot RAW files. It also shoots 1080p/60fps and captures 17MP 16:9 stills at the same time. On the LCD, the RX100 will have the same WhiteMagic LCD technology found on the Sony Xperia P which is brighter and lower power than its competitors.
The camera will be available come July for US$650 and does sound like one hell of a camera. No matter how great it sounds on paper however, it does have one hell of a pair of shoes to fill in the form of the Canon S100. How do they compare? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
