Not to be outdone by other tech giants with their swanky new headquarters, Facebook has enlisted celebrated architect, Frank Gehry to design their new campus extension, with constructions to begin sometime next year.
But who is Frank Gehry? An architect of huge renown, he is most famous for works such as the amazing Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, Spain, as well as the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA. According to Everett Katigbak, Facebook’s Environmental Design Manager, Gehry is also “famous for to combine breathtaking architecture that takes into account the needs of his clients.”
Gehry’s design is heavily inspired by Facebook’s engineering culture as well as the local architecture, which means that it will integrate seamlessly into the existing campus. The new extension will a “large, one room building that resembles a warehouse”, with a rooftop garden that spans the entire building.
But of course, there’s more for those actually working in the new building. Aside from open work spaces, there will be “cafes and lots of micro-kitchens with snacks”, as well as break-away spaces with couches.
