Human ingenuity is pretty awesome, we must say.
A man from China was building a homemade bomb for fishing purposes when it exploded prematurely, causing him to lose both his arms. Unfortunately, 51-year old farmer Sun Jifa could not afford the prosthetic arms offered by the local hospital.
So he went and built his own.
Eight years on, Sun has finally perfected his pair of prosthetic arms. Made from scrap metal with minimal cost, Sun spent years making prototypes before crafting metal hands that grip and hold by using a series of wires and pulleys inside the shell of the prosthetic.
Unfortunately, being made from steel, they are heavy and also are subject to temperature swings due to the weather. However, they are nothing compared to losing a limb. Therefore, Sun is already making plans to develop the design for other disabled people who cannot afford hospital prosthetics.
