As if the work environment over at Google is not enticing enough for us desk-dwellers, the latest news on Google’s employee benefits can make all of us green with envy. While us here at HQ are the envy of all our friends with our awesome work environment, Google just upped the ante with their benefits for employees who pass away.
Not only will Google continue to pay 50% of employees’ salaries for a decade after their deaths, they will also support the employee’s families to the tune of $1000 per month if they have dependent children until they reach nineteen (or 23, if the children are in full-time education).
Such benefits really do go a long way in maintaining employee appreciation and performance, and Google’s Senior VP for People Operations, Laszlo Bock, got it spot on when he says, “When it comes down to it, it’s better to work for a company who cares about you than a company who doesn’t.”
…Just ask Nathan Ford (of the TV series “Leverage”).
