Think that the 55” OLED TV from LG is awesome? Well, to rival that, Samsung also announced its very own 55” OLED TV at the on-going CES. Called the Super OLED TV (because there’s no official name yet), it will be produced from a single pane of glass and uses the company’s Super OLED technology for the best quality and thinness.
“Samsung has had a long and successful history of creating innovative OLED products, including mobile phones, digital cameras and tablet PCs. Today, we are proud to extend our OLED leadership to the TV category with this spectacular 55” Super OLED. By incorporating true-to-life picture quality with ultimate speed and vividness, Smart Interaction, Smart Content and ultimate thinness, Samsung is delivering the ultimate TV today.” – Hyunsuk Kum, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics.
The Super OLED TV from Samsung is expected to be available worldwide later half of this year. The benefits of Super OLED technology used includes self-emitting RGB sub-pixels which eliminates the need for backlight so the TV can weigh significantly less than a standard LED TV. Nothing has been mentioned about the pricing yet though, but what we do know that it is powered by a dual-core processor and will have 3D support.
