Think that the Super AMOLED display on many Samsung devices is very nice to have but is too expensive for you? Well, soon – I hope – you might be able to get your hands on some affordable Samsung devices that come with the pretty display. The lucky Koreans have recently been blessed with the new Samsung Galaxy M, an affordable smartphone equipped with a 4” Super AMOLED display.
With the price of less than USD$500 (approximately RM1,500), the Galaxy M will be equipped with a single-core 1Ghz processor, a 3MP camera, Bluetooth 3.0, 4GB of internal memory and a 1650mAh battery, and will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It will also feature a refined metal body with slim design so it won’t feel as flimsy and toy-like as other Galaxy devices.
According to Samsung’s new naming system, the Galaxy M (Magical) is supposed to be a high-performance model at an economic price point. But I can’t help but feel that the 1Ghz single core processor and 3MP camera can hardly qualify as a high performance device and certainly does not deserve a RM1,500 price tag. Its sister, the Galaxy W, comes with a better processor, a better camera, and despite having a lousier display, it’s retailed at RM999, significantly cheaper than the M, so let’s hope the “less (than) 500 US dollar” is a whole lot less and not USD$499.
