Stay on the internet long enough and you will be hard pressed not to stumble across a meme or 2. In fact, memes have become such a huge part of internet culture and even just life in general, lots of them have snuck into daily speech and are the topic of conversation at many a geek gathering. I’ve once held a conversation using ONLY memes and safe to say LULZ ensued. If you are looking to impress a geeky girl why not use this one to break the ice. Thank me later.
So without further ado, here are the memes have had a permanent place in our lives for 2012!

Lucas – Grumpy Cat
Cat pictures are a staple on the internet these days. I mean, who can get enough of cute cats in adorable positions. Even the stone coldest of hearts will melt with the proper cat picture. Along comes the grumpiest, most miserable looking cat in existence. Say hello to the aptly named Grumpy Cat. I first saw this little bugger on Reddit.com where cat pictures are a daily occurrence. Needless to say Grumpy Cat was a huge hit, despite him not looking at all cute or loveable. His perpetual grumpy face even permeates through to when he is being given some loving by his owners in this video!
So grumpy cat got so famous, there were even seasonal versions to this quickly endearing meme as well as a feature on Mashable. Let’s hope that come 2013, Grumpy Cat has lots more to be pissed about. My choice for Meme of the year 2012, is definitely that grumpy SOB. Where can I get one?
Chapree – ERMAHGED
Wow…this is actually quite tough since there are actually tons of meme that came out this year and many of them also ended up in my daily communication (yup, true story). I would say that ERMAHGED is my choice of the year since it is the simplest – it is pretty much a replacement for the “Oh My God” expression – among all of them.
I most probably used it more often than any meme out there as well, like every single time I encounter an attractive new product – “ERRRRMAHHHGEDDD NU TOISSSSSSS~
Huei – I don’t know who you are, but I will find you and I will kill you.
Sorry to be rude, especially during this festive season. But annoy me one more time with those game requests (sent every 10 minutes) or sing another viral song to me, and I swear…
Just kidding. There’s no better way to express your frustrations than with a meme because after years of raging on the social network (my personal accounts of course), it is clear that people cannot accept honest words (or honest swear words) so put it on a meme, make it look funny, and hope that these people get the message.
And before I go, I’d just like to say that we at Lowyat.NET do not condone killing.
Pang – Ridiculously Photogenic Guy.
Quite possibly one of the main reasons Internet memes gained fame among the ladies. Zeddie Little was running at the annual Cooper River Bridge Run in South Carolina when he smiled for one of the photographers in the area. Scrolling through the photos later, the photographer, Will King, noticed that one of the photos had a man who was soon dubbed “ridiculously photogenic”. He uploaded the photo on Reddit, forever changing the life of one man – and millions of women.
Soon after, what used to be a man’s domain became inundated with women young and old searching for memes of the “Ridiculously Photogenic Guy” – and, naturally, to find out if he was single. Unfortunately for his fans, he was not. As for the meme itself, it lives on in other guises, such as the Ridiculously Photogenic Metal Head, the uber cool and Ridiculously Photogenic Syrian Rebel, and also the very heartwarming Ridiculously Photogenic Surgery Girl. Oh, and who can forget Ridiculously Photogenic Loki, who arguably swooned more women than the original RPG?
BRB, Laughing so much now at the syrian rebel.
