While everybody’s been all exited with the MSN Messenger and Skype integration, it looks like Viber has been receiving some love as well. The free VoIP app has now expanded its user base to 140 million and to celebrate that, it has a brand new version for the holiday season. The update brings a host of new things to Viber such as playful emoticons, fun stickers, a new “Send Location” feature and an enhanced messaging experience with an updated user interface. As always, you’ll be able to send messages and call your friends from anywhere for free.
Tumblr has also been rather busy, just shortly after releasing an update to its Android app that brings better support for tablet devices, Tumblr released something similar for iOS users as well. Both updates come with a brand new interface for tablet users, making use of the larger screen; the iOS update even comes with a new menu for quick access to key functions.
To all iPhone 5 users who are having problems with your Wi-Fi connectivity, Apple has released the iOS 6.0.2 update for your device that fixes the nasty little bug. Unfortunately though, some users are having difficulties performing the update via OTA. If you don’t see it or don’t want to risk it, plug in your device to your computer and do it the old-school way – using iTunes.
Finally, there is no doubt how much iPhone users love Google Maps, even with the availability of other mapping services. After the release of the Google Maps app for iOS, Apple is seeing a 29% iOS 6 adoption spike. I personally know a few people who have held off the update because of the lack of Google Maps and now that it’s available, it’s no wonder everyone is now rushing into the update. According to MoPub, “we think it’s related to Google Maps. It verifies the hypothesis that people were actually holding back to upgrade until Google Maps was available”. Are you one of them?
