One of the biggest questions raised after the Apple event early this morning was the fate that has befallen the New iPad. Barely six months into its high-resolution life cycle, there is now a newer, better iPad. Emotions of the early adopters of the New iPad ranged from delirious to downright disgusted. But nevertheless, it wasn’t clear what fate lay with the third generation iPad.
Shortly after the event ended, it was clear that the New iPad is to be disowned six months into its life. At the Apple website, the iPad that was featured was now the new fourth-generation iPad, with nary a mention of the old one it just replaced. The online store continues to sell the iPad 2, but not the New iPad.
That’s pretty harsh.
In any case, Apple has confirmed that the New iPad has been discontinued. While Apple will not be selling new versions iPads any more, they will be selling refurbished ones starting from $379. Refurbished units get a new case as well as a new battery, so they are pretty much as good as new. However, these will only be available at Apple’s US online store.
