Update: It looks like Google Maps app for iOS 6 is only available for those in the U.S. with a U.S. iTunes account but if you are too impatient to wait for them to launch it to other countries, you can always sign up for a U.S. account and download it immediately.
What’s the most brilliant way to end the year? No, it’s not the launch of new devices like the iPhone 5, iPad mini and fourth generation iPad here in Malaysia, it’s the launch of Google Maps for iOS! Finally, after months of waiting and getting fooled by iOS Maps, the Google Maps app is now on the iTunes store and available for you to download, for free.
The app is customized for iPhone 5’s longer display but you can still download and install it for use on other iOS devices such as your older iPhone and even iPad. It comes with everything you would expect for Google Maps (my personal favorite is live traffic but I have yet to test it out on the app), including free voice guided turn-by-turn navigation that is not available in our region, bummers. To sum it up, it’s a full-featured Google Maps app.
It’s not available on my side at the moment, I guess it should be rolled out soon, region by region, but according to PhoneArena, initial tests shows that it doesn’t including walking or biking directions and it isn’t optimized for the iPad yet. We’ll let you know more once we get it on our iTunes store, meanwhile, it’s time to stalk the App Store and download the much needed app.
