As we head ever closer to the launch of Windows Phone 8, more and more devices are propping up the ecosystem. Last month, there was the announcements of the Samsung ATIV S, Nokia’s Lumia 920 and 820, as well as HTC’sWindows Phone 8X and 8S.
A second look at those devices will show that they are high-end or upper mid-range products. Also, there is one more WP8 hardware partner who is yet to announce their WP8 smartphone. Is it also a coincidence that an affordable mid-range WP8 device is still not announced?
Judging by the latest leaked photos, Huawei might very well be making a mid-range WP8 device. We heard rumours of an Ascend W1 smartphone about a month back, but now it looks like it will be announced soon. According to the latest rumours, the Ascend W1 will sport a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of flash storage and 512MB of RAM. It will also feature a four-inch, WVGA (800 x 480) display.
There’s no word yet on the camera in the device, although many will note the very One X-ish design. And, as can be seen from the photo, you can bet your house that it will be released in a rainbow of colour options (the one above is the increasingly popular cyan colourway, which was first seen in a Nokia N9).
Huawei’s ace up its sleeve for the Ascend W1 will most likely be its price, which is expected to be $310, or less than RM1000, the sweet spot for mid-range smartphones.
