While there are those who are still patiently waiting for Sony to update their 2012 Xperia smartphones, Sony have already gone ahead and announced its update path for Jelly Bean. As expected, there are several omissions that will disappoint many.
Interestingly, the latest range of Xperia devices that will be released shortly – the Xperia T, V and J – will only be getting their Jelly Bean updates in mid-Q1 of next year, which isn’t really convincing especially when flagship devices from rival companies are already promising that their latest smartphones will ship with Jelly Bean out of the box.
There is more disappointing news, too: the entire 2011 Xperia line will not be getting a Jelly Bean update. Yup, that pretty Xperia Arc S will remain on ICS – at least officially. In addition, while the blog post mentioned that this year’s Xperia range will be getting its Jelly Bean update in a later announcement, Sony mysteriously left out the Xperia U and Sola from its list. In the comments section, a Sony rep mentions that they are still “evaluating potential upgrades” for these phones and will make another announcement later.
