Earlier today, or mid night last night to be precise, thousands of Tumblr blogs were hacked and turned into something racist and anti-gay. Those pages were replaced with several dozen duplicate posts from a known hacker group, warning users that if they deleted the particular post, it would result in their entire Tumblr page being removed. Tumblr quickly responded to the issue, telling users to log out of all browsers that may be using Tumblr in order to stop the post from being spread.
The problem is fixed now, thankfully, Tumblr soon issued a message saying that all attacked pages have been restored to their original form.
“Tumblr engineers have resolved the issue of the viral post attack that affected a few thousand Tumblr blogs earlier today.”
While the problem may be resolved, it’s always wise to change your password, you know, just in case, and if you’ve been using a generic password for other online services as well, please change those too.
