As one of the most profitable companies in the world, it only follows that Apple would be one of the best global brands. With its products gaining rapid traction among the youths of today, one would think that Apple would be the most recognizable tech-related global brand – and they would be right.
A report by brand consultants Interbrand ranks Apple as the second-best global brand for 2012, behind only Coca-Cola. Jumping up six spots from eighth last year is no mean feat, and if any tech brand could do so, it would be Apple. The report even stated that the death of Apple co-founder “humanized” the brand, which increased its brand value.
What about other tech-related brands in the top 100 global brands for this year? For starters, Samsung jumped eight spots into the top 10 brands in the world at number nine – which will further explain the increasing animosity between Samsung and Apple. Nokia’s ailing fortunes is mirrored in its drop from 14th to 19th spot, while HP dropped from 10th to 15th spot in the list.
There were, however, no surprises for three other big names in tech: IBM slipped one spot to third after being dethroned of second spot by Apple, while Google surpassed Microsoft as the world’s fourth-best brand, after being listed one spot behind it in 2011.
