Still bitter over the $1.05 billion that Apple won in damages in its patent lawsuit against Samsung (pending Samsung’s appeal on the verdict), Samsung have now gone ahead with a lawsuit of their own over Apple, and it went straight for the jugular: the new, freshly-minted (albeit slightly scratched) iPhone 5.
When it was launched last month, Samsung had already cited that the iPhone 5 might be infringing on eight of its LTE patents, and it appears that they have found enough evidence to suggest that Apple’s new flagship smartphone has indeed violated patent laws.
Here’s part of Samsung’s statement, which sounds eerily similar to Apple’s own the last time round:
“…we have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights.”
What do you think? Will this be another long-drawn affair in court? Could the iPhone 5 sales be blocked?
