In addition to the three Xperia smartphones, Sony has also included a tablet into the family. Called the Xperia Tablet S, it replaces last year’s Tablet S as the company’s flagship tablet.
The Xperia Tablet S retains the distinctive “folded magazine” design from the Tablet S, but the hardware is much improved from last year, with a Tegra 3 chipset, a 9.4-inch 1280×800 IPS screen as well as a 6000mAh battery. Storage options for the Xperia Tablet S range from 16GB all the way up to 64GB. The IR emitter is also back, allowing users to use the tablet as a universal remote.
While it will only ship in ICS, but Sony is promising an update to Jelly Bean as soon as its customized apps are optimized. Slated for a September 7 release starting from $400, Sony has also announced plenty of accessories for the tablet, such as a “Surface-like” keyboard, a stand with HDMI and USB, and also the requisite leather case.
