Probably one of the most anticipated things in the BlackBerry World has got to be the BlackBerry 10 OS and today at the BlackBerry World 2012 keynote, we got to see what RIM has been working on. After announcing the physical keyboard less BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device, which every developer would be bringing back from Orlando, we got to see some very interesting features that BlackBerry 10 has to offer.
The first thing they demonstrated was the new “flow” style notifications and multitasking that the BB10 devices have. Instead of pressing a home button, you can easily swipe back to your previous screen, bring up a notification bar as well as see what is open. With these glancing gestures it gives you a much easier way to navigate through your phone and windows.
Next, since the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device is a touchscreen only device, it gave a perfect opportunity to show off the new on screen keyboard. Reminding me of SwiftKey on an Android phone, Its a good option to have considering that the bread and butter of a BlackBerry is the physical keyboard, the new on screen keyboard is miles above the old one.
Lastly BlackBerry 10 allows you to travel back in time (kinda). With a camera you often miss a critical moment and it’s lost forever. However with BB10, you can actually step backward in time to choose that frame which you missed.
From what I saw today, BlackBerry 10 looks very promising and I’m quite excited to see what RIM has in store with this new OS. Stay tuned to our twitter @LowyatNET for more BlackBerry World 2012 news. If you’re curious, we are running at -5 GMT which is 12 hours behind Malaysian time.
