It first started as technology collaboration between Nike and Apple to give runners an interactive way to measure, track and share their running activities. After spawning several products including Nike+ Sportband, the sports giant has now expand its Nike+ technology beyond running with the new Nike+ Fuelband.
Designed to be worn throughout the day, the Nike+ Fuelband is built with a set of accelerometers that measure every movement its wearer does. These movements will then be translated into a metric called NikeFuel which can be synced to Nike+ website wireless via Bluetooth to a mobile phone or through the band’s built-in USB plug to a PC. Users can set their daily NikeFuel goal, keep track their progress and share their Nike+ achievements on Twitter as well as Facebook through the Nike+ website and the free Nike+ FuelBand mobile app.

The FuelBand is also built with a set of LEDs which goes from red to green to indicate the progress of one’s daily goal. In addition to that, it also displays steps, calories and time.
So far, the release of Nike+ FuelBand has only been confirmed for United States who will receive it this coming February with a price tag of RM 461 (USD 149). It is going to take the device a little bit longer to hit Malaysia though considering the fact that we haven’t even seen the previous Nike+ product – the TomTom-powered Sportwatch GPS – in our market yet. Oh well…
