Never a telco to lay low for too long, it appears U Mobile is preparing yet another disruptive move in the telco space. It’s next move could be the launch of a new postpaid plan that’s with the largest data quota we’ve ever seen.
Thanks to a tip, we’ve obtained an image purportedly showing the upcoming plan. It appears that U Mobile will be releasing a postpaid plan – called Hero P98 – that offers a whopping 30GB of data, unlimited calls, and other U Mobile exclusive features…for just RM98 a month.
The prospect of unlimited calls is something that’s common these days, but 30GB of data allocation per month – without any fine print, mind – is certainly not common. U Mobile does have a P70 Hero plan that is offering 15GB of data as a promotion until the end of this year, but the P98 takes it to another level.
In terms of pricing, no other competitor comes close. Maxis’ revamped MaxisONE plans offer 20GB of data for RM188 a month (though it can be increased via MaxisONE Share plans), while Celcom’s First Platinum plan features 18GB (9GB weekdays + 9GB weekends) for RM150. Meanwhile, Digi has a RM238 per month plan that offers 30GB of data.
The P98 plan also comes with unlimited calls, but there are SMS charges – 3 sen to U Mobile numbers, and 8 sen to other networks. It is the only network to have no free SMS quota (Maxis and Celcom offer them for free, while Digi has some free SMS allocation), but given how rarely most Malaysians use SMS these days, that isn’t a big issue.
In addition, the P98 plan is also eligible for U Mobile’s Data Backpack roaming feature, which lets you use your plan’s data while roaming in 12 countries. Finally, P98 subscribers will also get unlimited data allocation for streaming using Video Onz.
Unfortunately, the brochure does not show when this new plan will be launched – though the fact that this information is on a brochure should be an indicator of how soon it’ll be.
We’ve reached out to U Mobile to comment on the authenticity of the brochure, and will update the post when we receive a reply.
Thanks for the tip, Emimarson!
