Just moment ago, Sibyl World together with Tencent have officially launched the new QQ Watch in our market. Malaysia is apparently the first county in the South East Asia to receive the smartwatch that is designed for children up to 12 years old.
However, the main objective of QQ Watch to allow parents or guardians to be in touch and monitor their children. Originally launched in China last year, this is done through the watch’s connected feature which include voice intercom, closed loop one-way monitoring, moderated group chat, and text messaging as well as tracking capability through GPS and cellular network triangulation.
Built with a 1.22-inch IPS display, the QQ Watch also comes with a 3-megapixels camera on its side that can be utilized by the child to snap a photo that may able to provide a visual clue to his or her whereabouts. This camera together with the watch’s microphone can also be activated remotely by parents or guardians.
The QQ Watch has also been built to meet IP65 standard which means that it is dirt and water resistant – suitable for a child’s carefree usage. At the same time, it can also be worn as a normal watch as well as a necklace through the included accessories. Even though it is designed for child’s safety, the QQ Watch does come with additional features for children’s enjoyments that such as steps tracker, alarm clock, weather app, and short-distance chat mode.
In terms of battery life, the QQ Watch apparently able to last from 3 to 5 days and do note that users also need to provide a dedicated mobile plan data as well as nano SIM card for the watch. Initially priced at RM 499 (normal price RM 569) for the first one month, the new Tencent QQ Watch will be available at Popular and Watsons branches throughout the country by the end of May 2016.
