(UPDATE @ 6:56pm, November 21) Dell Malaysia has confirmed the availability of the new devices, including the Alienware Graphics Amplifier. More below.
Dell Malaysia have announced that the company’s latest range of Alienware products will be coming later this month. Yup, the sexy Alienware 13 and the Area 51 desktop with its out-of-this-world design will both be available in Malaysia in the coming weeks.
Announced three months ago, the Alienware 13 is Dell’s latest entry to the Alienware gaming laptop series, bringing a more compact alternative for gamers on the go. The Alienware 13 is unlike its larger siblings, the Alienware 14 and 17, where its sleek silver chassis is less than an inch thick, and weighing just 2.04kg.
Keeping gamers happy is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M GPU whirring underneath, alongside a series of Intel Core i CPU options and up to 16GB of RAM. Unfortunately, the Alienware 13 comes standard with a lowly 1366 x 768 panel, but you can bump it all the way up to 2560 x 1440 with touch support. Likewise, there are also a host of storage options to configure, from traditional hard disk drives to speedy SSDs. (UPDATE @ 6:56pm, November 21) For the Malaysian market, the Alienware 13 will be available in two variants. Both will be powered by an Intel Core i5-4210U processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB GDDR5, and 8GB of DDR3 1600MHz RAM. The more affordable variant, priced at RM3999, will feature a Full HD display and a 1TB hard drive. The premium variant, which costs RM4999, packs a touch-enabled 2560 x 1440 display with a faster 256GB SSD.
And for a 13-inch laptop, the Alienware 13 is pretty well-padded with connectivity options: there are three USB 3.0 ports (one with PowerShare Technology), HDMI-out, Mini DisplayPort, RJ-45, and a media card reader.
The Alienware 13 also packs the proprietary PCI-Express based Alienware Graphics Amplifier port, which connects to Dell’s latest gadget: the Alienware Graphics Amplifier houses a desktop-class GPU to give the Alienware 13 some serious graphics firepower to boost its performance. Unfortunately, Dell Malaysia currently has no plans in bringing the Graphics Amplifier to the country. (UPDATE @ 6:56pm, November 21) The new Alienware Graphics Amplifier is also available in Malaysia, and will retail for RM1099.
What Dell will be bringing alongside the Alienware 13 laptop is the uniquely-designed Area 51 desktop. Powered by an unlocked Intel Core i7 Extreme processor and up to a Tri-SLI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 array (in the US at least), the new liquid-cooled Area 51 desktop packs a minimum 8GB 2133MHz RAM, up to 16GB. Storage options range from a 2TB hard disk and up to a 256GB SSD and 4TB hard disk combo. Connectivity options include six USB 3.0 ports (two in the front portion), four USB 2.0 ports, and an amazing five HDD/SSD storage bays.
(UPDATE @ 6:56pm, November 21) For the Malaysian market, the Alienware 51 will come in three variants. The lowest-priced one, retailing at RM6999, will pack an Intel Core i7-5820K processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 with 2GB GDDR5 GPU, 8GB 2133MHz RAM, and a dual storage solution with one 128GB SSD paired with a 2TB 7200rpm hard disk. This variant will also only feature a slot-loading DVD drive.
The second variant, retailing at RM9999, packs an Intel Core i7-5930K CPU, two GeForce GTX 770 with 4GB GDDR5 GPUs in SLI, 16GB 2133MHz RAM, and a similar storage solution as the cheaper variant, with one 128GBSSD paired with a 2TB 7200rpm hard drive. On the other hand, the optical disc drive is a slot-loading dual-layer Blu-Ray reader.
For RM12999, the highest-end Area 51 model available in Malaysia is powered by a Core i7-5930K CPU, three GeForce GTX 770 with 6GB GDDR5 GPUs in SLI, 16GB 2133MHz RAM, and a more generous storage solution with one 256GB SSD and one 4TB 6000rpm hard disk. This variant will also feature a slot-loading dual-layer Blu-Ray reader.
The Area 51’s design isn’t just meant to look distinctly different, it also serves to provide easy access to the I/O ports in front of you, while making it easy to pivot the desktop to access the rear ports; there’s even a “rear accessibility lighting” switch to illuminate the back portion when you need it.
Both the Alienware 13 gaming laptop and Area 51 desktop will be available starting from November 21, with retail prices starting from RM3999 for the Alienware 13 and RM5999 RM6999 for the Area 51 desktop.
