We are pretty sure that many of you here might have owned or had an encounter with Casio products at least once regardless of your age. From wrist watches to calculators to cameras to musical instruments, Casio products can be found everywhere since decades ago.
Despite that, Casio actually never had any official presence in Malaysia and depended on distributors such as Marco Corporation who is the exclusive distributor for Casio timepieces since 1972 to spread Casio products in Malaysia. That changes this year though…and the company really wants you to know that Casio is now officially in Malaysia. For real.
Truth to be told, Casio has actually set its foot in Malaysia quite some time ago but in the form of manufacturing facility which at one time, is the biggest offshore facility for Casio outside of Japan. Casio only begins to set up its official presence in Malaysia earlier this year when the company announced that it has opened a wholly-owned Malaysian subsidiary which is responsible for sales and marketing of Casio products in our market.
Additionally, the subsidiary which is officially named as Casio Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. is also responsible to determine products that suit Malaysian consumers via in-depth market research. Nevertheless, Casio Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s operations are still being supervised by Casio Singapore which acts as the regional office for Casio in ASEAN region. The Singapore office also overlooked the brand’s representative office in Jakarta, Indonesia which was opened in 2011.
Moving on to November 2014, the company will be having a media session to formally introduce Casio Malaysia Sdn Bhd to everyone. According to the media invite that we’ve received earlier today (shown above), the company will also showcase its Exilim line of digital camera and timepieces. As there are still plenty of time to go before the actual event takes place, do note that there might be changes to these information.
Even though Casio now has its own office in Malaysia, we don’t expect it to have much impact on the brand’s relationship with its existing Malaysian partners. Nevertheless, we do hope to hear more about the brand’s Exilim digital camera division and Bluetooth-equipped timepieces as well as the possibility to see other interesting Casio products in our market such as its GzOne rugged smartphone series.
