While the frantic search for Malaysia Airlines MH370 which disappeared en route to Beijing last weekend is still going strong, here comes an interesting tale that took place at KLIA. If you have been following the news for the past few days, you might be able to guess it: the appearance of Ibrahim Mat Zin or as he calls himself, Raja Bomoh Sedunia Nujum VIP.
Over the past few days, the Raja Bomoh and his followers have performed a number of rituals to help locate the missing aircraft including using bamboo (as binoculars) and traditional fish trap in order to locate the aircraft which he claimed has been hijacked by supernatural beings. He also performed another ritual earlier today which involved some coconuts, a carpet…honestly, I’ve no idea what it is about.
Judge the ritual yourself through the video below:
Obviously, many netizens out there are rather amused after the news of these rituals came to their attention. Naturally, some of them decided to come out with parodies of these rituals. Here are some of our favourites:

The Raja Bomoh apparently has 50 years of experience and have been involved in several high profile incident in the past such as the Highland Towers disaster and Mona Fandey case. In the case of MH370, he suspects that the aircraft has been hijacked by supernatural beings which led to the flight’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, many can’t help noticing the uncanny resemblance between Raja Bomoh’s rituals and some of the well-known gags from P.Ramlee’s Laksamana Do Re Mi comedy movie. Hence, it makes me wonder if the Raja Bomoh and his team will return to KLIA again with a magical harmonica or a magical bamboo stick which were part of the gags from the famed comedy movie:
For those wondering if these rituals are actually done according to Islamic teachings, well…no, they are not. This fact was clearly stated in this statement issued earlier today by the Director-General for Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Dato’ Haji Othman Mustapha. Through the statement, he has also pointed out that the department has made similar announcement back in 2004 with regards to the Raja Bomoh’s activities.
Depending on how you look it, Raja Bomoh’s antics might have provided some comic relief to the members of the public but nevertheless, it is rather sad seeing someone trying to take advantage of the crisis in this way. Let’s continue to pray for the safety of flight MH 370 and hope that the ongoing SAR operation will be able to locate the aircraft as well as its passengers and crew members as soon as possible.
