Not actual product: iWatch 2 Concept Watch by ADR Studio.
The idea of having a smartphone companion in the form of wristwatch is nothing new. In fact, Sony Mobile has one right now in the market called SmartWatch that is designed to work with its Xperia devices and a number of other non-Xperia products but when the tech giant Apple is rumoured to be working on one, it is hard to ignore what we have just heard.
According to Chinese-based blog TGBus.com, Apple is currently working with Intel in order to bring the Bluetooth-based watch out into the market. Apparently, it will be equipped 1.5-inch OLED display with ITO-coated glass that will be manufactured by the Taiwanese-based RiTdisplay Corporation and can be used to answer calls – something that Sony SmartWatch can’t achieve.
While such device has yet to capture the market’s attention for the time being, the immense success of Peeble – which managed to gather RM 30 million (USD 10 million) worth of funding via Kickstarter – is one of the proof that there is definitely a demand for such gadget. With the amount of customers that Apple has, a wristwatch companion for its immensely popular iOS devices could spell yet another hit among consumers although let’s see if this particular rumour will eventually become a reality in the first half of 2013.
